Girl gets hand stuck in Metro station escalator - Washington Times

Girl gets hand stuck in Metro station escalator - Washington Times A four year old girl fell on the escalator at L'Enfant Plaza and is now hospitalized with "significant injuries" to her hand. There are now four comments attached to this asking where the parents were at the time and why weren't they watching her or holding her hand. As the mother of a former four year old, now 19 year old, I will withhold judgement until further details come out. As any parent knows, things can happen quickly even when you are right beside kids and have taken the utmost precautions. Who knows, the accident might have been worse if someone was holding her hand because she might have taken that person with her as she fell. In the words of Forrest Gump "that's all I have to say about that" until further details come out. But I will entertain thoughts on how the government will react to this. A moratorium on escalator use? Wait for it....wait for it...Just kidding! That will never happen because there are too many Washington bureaucrats that have to get to work on time!

What I would like to see is a reconfiguration of escalator handrails which currently do not have a stable hand grip. If you do fall you have nothing to grab onto to break the fall. Now that would be a good use of tax payer dollars without penalizing the many people who use those escalators.

Now will the parents sue the Metro? That's another story.
