DREAM Act cloture fails, 55-41 « Hot Air Thank God we got this one. I now no longer have a knot in my chest that made me feel like I was having a heart attack.  If an ECG had been done on me earlier this morning before the vote it probably would have looked like this picture! Let's hope for a better legislative year in 2011. I don't think my poor heart can take another one like 2010.

As for DADT, I am no fan of the repeal but it is a done deal now.  It is time to sort out once and  for all if gays will be able to serve openly and successfully in the military.  Many of our finest troops  are gay and they deserve a chance.  But if this fails the damage to the military will be immeasurable.  I hope our leaders realize this and are prepared to shoulder the consequences.

Federal Judge Rules in Favor of Virginia's Central Challenge to Health Care Law - FoxNews.com A very important ruling on the constitutionality of Obamacare. Let's hope we have more rulings like this.  Of course it didn't take long for the smear campaign to begin against the judge who struck it down. See the article list below. More cases to come.

U.S. flight crew held by foreign authorities for 'insulting' Chavez

U.S. flight crew held by foreign authorities for 'insulting' Chavez Wow! Be careful what you say in foreign countries. Be sure you know and obey the laws, customs and courtesies of any country you visit. This would have been funny if it hadn't had such serious consequences. Venezuelan jails are probably not as nice as American jails either. Thankfully this crew did not come to any harm but it did cost the airlines.

It does make one appreciate the freedom of speech we have in our country.  Think of how many people would be in jail right now just for calling the President crazy!

I am surprised they even paid attention to the Constitution at all.  Do you think the House will change their minds about the enormous government control over our food supply once this bill is passed?  I don't think so either.  But we now have a chance to have our say again.  Contact your house reps today and make your feelings known!

JPMorgan Chase Bank has a change of heart regarding Christmas Tree in Southlake - Fort Worth Christianity & Culture Examiner.com A follow up article to the JP Morgan-Chase Bank Christmas Tree fiasco. Looks like Chase is one bank that is learning about what happens when Christians stand up for their symbols and beliefs. I hope Christians take heart from this that we can make a difference when we stand up for our values and beliefs. We don't have to give in to other cultures and belief systems at the expense of our own. Now is the time more than ever for Christians in America and all over the world to decide what they believe, why they believe it and be willing to stand firm!

Chase Bank Orders Tree Removed - War On Christmas - Fox Nation

American Christmas TreeImage via Wikipedia
Orders Tree Removed - War On Christmas - Fox Nation A Chase Bank branch was ordered to remove a Christmas tree that had been donated by a local business patron, Antonio Morales of Bellagio Salon. The tree was ordered removed on the grounds that it might be offensive. Once people started to complain, the bank officials changed their story. Apparently they notified Mr. Morales that they would like to have the tree back but wanted to pay for it as it was bank policy not to accept gifts. He said no because it is his policy to donate trees. He donated the tree elsewhere. Kudos to Mr. Morales for keeping the spirit of Christmas! As for JP Morgan and Chase Bank, you just might be getting a very ugly Christmas present this year--the loss of many Christian customers who are fighting back in the war on Christmas.

One of the commenters included Mr Morales' business address and suggested readers send Christmas cards thanking him for his gift and for keeping the spirit of Christmas.  I think this is a great idea!  Let's show him our support! Here is his address:

Smithsonian Christmas-Season Exhibit Features Ant-Covered Jesus, Naked Brothers Kissing, Genitalia, and Ellen DeGeneres Grabbing Her Breasts | CNSnews.com

The Smithsonian Building in Washington D.C., U...Image via Wikipedia
Click on the title to read the article about the Smithsonian's new Christmas season exhibit.  I am all for freedom of speech, art and expression and I spent 28 years in the service defending such rights. But I have to wonder how this level of art made it to the Smithsonian as the technical aspects of some of the exhibits seen in this article don't seem to be museum quality. I have seen better stuff at high school exhibits. It makes me wonder whether the Smithsonian was more interested in the artists' motivations rather than masterful technique. Evidently a few of the commenters, some of whom have actually been to the exhibit, thought so as well. It's a good thing this article provided an explanation of some of the exhibits as some of them were completely lost on me. For example, I never would have figured out on my own that the video with the ant covered Jesus was supposed to be a metaphor for the AIDS epidemic.  I have to wonder if the underlying motive was to simply offend, rather than portray true emotion.  I just saw an update that the Smithsonian has removed the ant covered Jesus from the exhibit.  Wow! Never thought I would see the day!

Shocker! TSA's nude scans would miss taped-on bombs

Shocker! TSA's nude scans would miss taped-on bombs So if the scans miss taped-on bombs it is safe to assume that pat downs will become the more prominent search method? And what is next? Cavity searches? The question remains as to how much Americans will tolerate before they stop, or at least greatly curtail, flying?  What is a right, reasonable and above all EFFECTIVE method of search?

» Please Don’t Profile: Muslim Foreign-born Teen Tries to Blow-up Christmas Tree Lighting - Big Government How long do you think before the libs and Muslims start screaming about entrapment? I wonder how this guy is going to be treated under Eric Holder's misguided Department of Justice?  Will he get what he deserves or will he get a slap on the wrist?  Many of the commenters are calling for profiling.  But it isn't just profiling that is needed.  Under a UN sponsored program  and under our current immigration policies, over 200,000 Somalis have been allowed to enter the country on work visas.  This Somali diaspora, however, has never fully assimilated into American culture and they are fast becoming one of the largest Muslim groups to produce homegrown terrorists.  Unless we couple profiling with meaningful immigration reform we can look forward to more homegrown terrorists in our midst.  Let's hope the FBI and other law enforcement agencies continue to be vigilant and skillful at thwarting their attacks.

Sanitary Towel Prompts TSA To Grope Sexual Assault Victim Oh dear, I sure would like to know how prevalent this is. Ladies I would recommend not wearing diapers, panty liners, sanitary napkins or tampons through the security line. Let the TSA officials deal with the results of whatever they find when they explore your privates and panties. Won't they have fun? Ok ok I know that's tacky.  But maybe that's what it will take to make the TSA workers protest the new pat down rules.  Everyone in America needs to protests these rules.  Otherwise things are just going to get worse.

The History Channel Sucks as History | Israel Right Side News

The History Channel Sucks as History Israel Right Side News I have long suspected that the History Channel exists to entertain more than to educate. It looks like there is someone else who agrees with me! Check out Ted Belman's thoughts on a recent History Channel article about the 1949 UN Partition of Israel and Palestine. Anyone who has ever studied history knows that it is just as much subjective as objective at times. It is one thing to state facts correctly and interpret them towards a particular bias. It is quite another to slightly alter or change facts completely to support a point of view! The History Channel has some good programs but it is just one source of information. Always go to multiple sources when studying a historical event. You will be amazed at the different points of view that surrounds most events. You know you are getting closer to the truth when multiple sources agree. You will also be quicker to spot erroneous information if you look at many sources. If the History Channel is your only source of historical information, you are getting only one, probably very biased viewpoint. Beware! And go to the library!

Looks like there's going be a whole lot more people driving on the roads. So much for all that "green" talk about mass transportation being better for the environment.  Oh well, why not?  We have satellites that can see us from miles away and rolling x-ray machines that can see us through our vehicles.  What's a little more invasive inconvenience?  It keeps us safer doesn't it? I mean...doesn't it? Internet Censorship

A website blocked in BahrainImage via Wikipedia
Comments: EDITORIAL: Democratic Internet censorship - Washington Times Yet another attack on the first amendment! If this legislation goes through this blog and others like it could be shut down with no warning. The feds wouldn't even have to give a reason. So I am writing and posting as much as I can as fast as I can because time is running out for free speech on the internet. Just a few short years ago, this would have been a non-issue. With it's passage by the Senate Judiciary Commitee however, legislation to regulate the internet and free speech is fast becoming a reality. Hopefully this will not pass in the lame duck congress and if it does hopefully it can be reversed somehow when Congress reconvenes in January. Bear in mind though that even if we can stop this now, the other side will continue their efforts to try to regulate free speech. Don't forget we have a powerful regulatory force in place now that doesn't answer to Congress. We can get rid of them hopefully in 2012 but if we can't then we are stuck with them and the damage they will inflict for the duration. We must stay awake, alert and we MUST KEEP FIGHTING no matter how exhausting and futile it seems at time. The stakes are high and are going even higher because our freedoms are being assaulted on not one but several fronts as we have seen with the TSA debacle. The key is to remain calm and stay focused on the goal of protecting our freedom. Without freedom we have nothing. In the meantime please take some time today and contact your senators and congressmen to tell them to stand against every piece of legislation the lame duck congress is trying to ram through. That is a good first step.

Officials feel furor of airport pat-downs - Washington Times The anger continues to grow and if it keeps growing it is inevitable, I fear, that something very bad, very violent, and very ugly will happen. I just hope I am not in the security line when it does. I really believe the TSA and the adminstration have crossed a line with the new procedures. Right now they are feeling the heat from complaints.  It's only a matter of time before the American people push back harder.  Hmmm....maybe that's what they want to see happen.

Haiti Opts Out of Remainder of Hurricane Season | Off The Grid News

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI - JANUARY 20: In this h...Image by Getty Images via @daylife
Haiti Opts Out of Remainder of Hurricane Season Off The Grid News

This tongue-in-cheek article satirizes and at the sametime poignantly highlights Haiti's extreme suffering in the wake of hurricanes, flooding and disease. Wouldn't it be great if we could spread the wealth of suffering around? Better yet, wouldn't it be great to be able to opt out of such awful suffering altogether? I am certain that if I lived in Haiti I would be more than ready for an opt out!

It is safe to say that Haiti probably wouldn't have made it this far if it hadn't been for numerous churches and humanitarian groups at work in the region over the years. Our hearts go out to the beautiful people of Haiti and we wonder why they have suffered so much and for so long. Why have untold billions of dollars in aid from all over the world failed to stabilize and improve this little country? Why haven't the richest most powerful countries in the world been able to help Haiti? Haiti has one of of the highest populations of aid workers in the world and yet its plight continues as if the aid workers didn't exist at all. Why is that? Why is it that all of our efforts to help Haiti seem to get washed away with every storm? Why oh why isn't anything working??

There are no easy answers to any of these questions. Yet it is critical that as a world community we find the answers because we need to fundamentally change how we operate in Haiti. Are we there to really help Haiti or are we there just to get our humanitarian "rocks off" so we can go home feeling good about ourselves? Are we just throwing money at the problem and hoping for someone else to come up with the solutions? Are we allowing the status quo to remain because "there's money in them thar poor Haitians?" Make no mistake some of the humanitarian groups there would probably not be in business if it weren't for the poor conditions in Haiti. All I am saying is that it is time for us all to take a good look at what we are trying to accomplish there. I know many who have been on mission trips to that region and they tell me they have seen the face of Jesus in the people they help. Maybe that's the reason Haiti stays the way it is. Maybe it is one of the few places people can see Jesus in the work they do and the people they help. But I think it is time we look to ways we can see Jesus in our efforts to help Haiti build a sustainable country.  I think Jesus would like that.

TSA checkpoints: Real-life horrors

Transportation Security AdministrationImage via Wikipedia
TSA checkpoints: Real-life horrors More TSA "nuke or grope" stories. This article contains some great websites and resources where people can share stories and get educated on how to stand up to this. I have said before I am all for reasonable security measures that have been proven to work. As a former Air Force flight nurse I more than understand the need for tight security when flying. But these measures are bordering on legalized assault. I avoid flying as much as possible these days. But if I have to fly I am going for the "nuke" option. The thought of strangers having the legal authority to touch me in ways that I wouldn't allow under normal circumstances is just too much for me. Things just might get very ugly, and I want to get to my destination on time. Sad state of affairs isn't it, to have to choose between having naked pictures taken of me or getting my privates squeezed. Hmmm...maybe I will just drive from now on. Even if the government takes naked pictures of me from a satellite, at least no one is putting their hands on me. For now.

By the way the TSA in an article below says there is no checkpoint groping, that TSA officials are carrying out procedures they were trained to perform.  If that is the case then where are all these reports coming from?  And just what are they training the TSA to do??  By the way, they call it an "enhanced pat down."  Just another way of saying "I have permission to touch you whether you want me to or not," if you ask me.

Communist Party covers up support for Obama The Communist Party of America evidently scrubbed their website of any statements saying they actively supported Obama's election in 2008. Those of you who continue to doubt whether or not Obama has a Marxist/Socialist agenda for America need to read this article and check out the CPUSA website. Ask yourself why the Communist Party is so excited about Obama. Could the reason be that Obama's agenda is in line with the Communist Party's agenda? Why yes it could, yes it could!

What a joke! Why do you think they haven't been successful? Could it be because Socialism is the ultimate failed system and Americans know it? Oh, I think so, I think so.
