America

On this Memorial Day weekend I would like to show my appreciation to all those who have served and died. But first I would like to tell you who I am.
I was born out of hardship. I fought against those who were abusive to me. Out of this fight, in victory, I became something great. I have made mistakes, but the good I have done is overwhelming. I have shed blood for people I have never met. I have taken people into my house who were abused and mistreated in their own house. I have been overwhelmingly charitable, even to those who have berated and demeaned me. I have come to the aid of many who were strangers to me when no one else would. Once liberated from those who abused me I built a foundation in the word of the God of Israel and his Son Jesus. During times when I should have been killed, "He" has come to beat back my enemies. I am honorable, trustworthy, and the wisest of all. I have compassion and empathy for those who are less fortunate.
Now, I am tired. There are some in my own house that seek to destroy me and all the foundations that made me what I am. Those who stand by my side, fight against them. It has been a continual assault. I am getting weak, but my heart is strong, as is the heart of those who stand with me.
But it is alway's when I feel like this, that "He" comes to give me strength. A strength that my enemies from within my house and outside can not equal. In the end I will be victorious because of the very foundations they seek to destroy. I say to those who are worried about me, fear not, for if God stands with me, who can stand against me. I thank, with all my heart, all those who have fought for the things I stand for. God will bless them greatly. So, who am I?
I AM THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!!!

Doctors Reverse Ruling On Female Circumcision

The American Academy of Pediatrics has reversed its ruling on support of female circumcision thanks to a "firestorm" of criticism.  Click on the title for details.  Thank heaven the AAP came to its senses on this issue!  While I am grateful I still feel like this was a very close call.  This demonstrates the need for health care professionals to be vigilant and proactive concerning ethical policies that deal with immigrant populations.  We as health care providers need to stand up against bone headed decisions such as this and not just blindly accept what ever our professional organizations produce in the name of cultural sensitivity and political correctness.  We also need to stand up against patient pressure, and be fearless in our education and outreach.  It may not make us popular or rich but we must do the right thing for both our patients and our consciences.

This also demonstrates that an organized campaign of letters, phone calls, emails, newspaper articles, blog posts, etc CAN make a difference and bring about change!  Kudos to all who pulled together to make this change happen!

Dear Mr President

Click on the title and check out this cool new video!  Thanks to my cousins for emailing it to me!  I like what they said about it: "America lovers will love it! America haters will hate it!"   It's just the thing to put us in the mood for Memorial Day when we all need to reflect on the sacrifices our brave service men and women have made and are making for our freedom.  We The People are at a crossroads now where we must decide to continue on the path of freedom or take another path to tyranny.  There are forces working on us to take the path to tyranny.  The only way we will be able to resist is if we value freedom more than anything in the world and fight for it with all our hearts and minds.  Now more than ever it is time to know what we believe, know what we are willing to stand for, know what we are willing to fight for and die for.   Time is running out-where do we stand?

Obama's Counterterror Advisor We're Not at War With Jihadists

Imagine how surprised and happy the jihadists will be when they hear this! My my my!

I listened to this and I think Mr. Brennan sees things as he (and his boss) wants to see them, not as they really are.  I have done a lot of reading about Islam and what I have found is that  militant, radical, wahabbi Islam IS the REAL Islam, as it was practiced during the days of Mohammed.  I would like to believe in peaceful, loving, introspective, jihad but the Koran, the Hadith writings and the words of Mohammed himself simply do not support this view.   Mr. Brennan needs to quit misleading the American people that the moderates are the ones practicing real Islam.  He has it completely backwards.  It is Wahabbi Islam that is the true Islam.  To pretend otherwise is disingenuous and puts us all in great danger.

Nice view through those rosy glasses Mr. Brennan.  Too bad it's not reality.

Crash test for dummies

Crash test for dummies I was just going to tweet this but it is just too good not to write about here. It's an amazing story about Massachussets State Rep Michael Moran, a sanctuary supporter, who was rear-ended by an illegal immigrant, drunk, going 60 miles an hour, and dressed in a mexican costume! When arrested the guy just laughed and said he knew nothing would happen to him and that he was going back to Mexico! Apparently illegals have learned to game the state system by not showing up for court dates and then running back to their home countries.  When this happens there is nothing that anyone can or will do about it.  Thankfully Rep Moran wasn't killed but one does hope he had some sense knocked into him enough to rethink his immigration policies.

Is It Time To Kill Off The DNI?

Is It Time To Kill Off The DNI? The title is misleading. The authors don't mean to really kill the DNI! Or rather I should say, the former DNI. The blog author and the commentators debate the reasons why Dennis Blair resigned/was fired/was asked to resign as well as whether or not to keep the office of the DNI. Among other things they debate whether or not the office of the DNI is too broad in scope for effectiveness. This is the heart of the issue and it needs to be addressed and resolved before anyone else is appointed. Otherwise the same problems with continue. Click on the title to read the full blog post and comments. The commentators are all experts in the field of national security so it is worth taking the time to read all of their remarks. My brother sent me this article and as usual he has chosen well.

Ken Blackwell : Rand Paul: Another High Tech Lynching - Townhall.com

Ken Blackwell : Rand Paul: Another High Tech Lynching - Townhall.com This is one of the better articles I have seen written about the Rand Paul debacle. I couldn't have said it better myself so read on! No doubt about it, Paul brought a lot of this fall out on himself but no one should be surprised at his viewpoint. He is a Libertarian and this is typical of how Libertarians think. This debacle is just another example of why Libertarians, Republicans and Democrats make very bad political bed fellows. It is also an example of why Libertarians have always run but have rarely been actually elected to higher office. Time will tell if the course is reversed with Rand Paul, but if he keeps defacing the sacred cow of The Civil Rights Act and demonstrating his cluelessness about why it was important in the first place we will know the answer soon enough.

That being said, most certainly the Civil Rights Act was the most important legislation of its time, helping a nation rise to a higher level of equality than it had ever known before. I liken it as to an assistive device that we needed to support us while we recovered from the ills of segregation and horrors of slavery.  The best part was how the country united behind it and worked across party lines to get it passed.  We knew we needed it to heal , we worked hard to make it happen and it served us well for a time.  Perhaps now the question Dr Paul, in his ham handed way, is really trying to get us to answer is this: do we need the Civil Rights Act anymore? Or are we well enough now to get out of the wheelchair, throw the crutch away and see if we can walk on our own? Have we internalized the original intent of the act enough that we can carry it out without artificial quotas and laws? Physicians and health care providers know full well that when people use assistive devices long past healing, they actually grow weaker instead of stronger. If we are to accept the analogy that the Civil Rights Act is an assistive device, then it is reasonable to ask ourselves whether or not our continued use of it is indeed making us weaker instead of stronger.

Proponents of civil rights would probably posit that we still need civil rights laws to prevent discrimination and this is a legitimate argument. No doubt about it, people are less inclined to blatantly discriminate if they know they will be prosecuted for breaking the law. But on the other hand, forty years is a long time to use a legislative assistive device. If we continue with it much longer our ability to evolve as human beings may become permanently disabled. We won't know how much we have healed until we are willing to throw down the crutches and walk. Our willingness to take such a risk may be the true measure of our human progress as it will mean we have evolved to the point where we view the world through human instead of racial eyes.

Rand Paul may not be the most polished of politicians. But the issues he has raised about the Civil Rights Act deserve serious consideration because not only are they fundamental to future politics but they could also be critical to our survival as a human race. We need to get to where we can solve problems and deal with life as humans, not just as members of a particular race.  Yes there is a risk that if we set the act aside we will stumble and fall.  We may discover that we need the act to help us for yet awhile longer.  But how will we know what we are cabable of now unless we try?  Rand Paul may not survive as a political candidate but if his candidacy makes us think more about this issue, maybe it will have served a far greater purpose.

Rand Paul is right!

Thomas Jefferson told us that we must be vigilant in keeping the federal government confined within it's enumerated power's. He went on to say that while in one case it may be for the good (giving the fed more power than is Constitutional), it is the common tool used by tyrants to oppress.
James Madison told us that men with power should alway's be mistrusted.
While the goal of the civil rights movement was a noble and righteous one, we must look beneath the surface. We must look at how the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of the federal government used this "equal rights" movement to create long lasting voting blocks for themselves, and destroyed 4 generations of people in doing so.
Here are just a few of the things that came out of the fed.
1- The modern welfare system- While it may sound nice to say they wanted to help the poor, what they did was far from help. They offered poor families just enough money to survive, and then told them that if they got caught working the small amount they were receiving would be taken away. This took away all motivation to work and become self sufficient. Then these families were told that they couldn't have a man living in the house. This drove fathers away from the home. The federal government use to send social workers into peoples homes to inspect for any hint of a man living in the house. If I were the most devious man on earth I couldn't have devised a better method for destroying the work ethic and breaking up families than what the fed did. Many of these families wound up with Grandmother, mother, daughters (and the daughters children) all on public assistance and dependent on government. Many of these families still, 50 years later, have not been able to break these chains.
2- It gave us quotas- This was just replacing one form of discrimination with another and caused, even blacks who were well qualified, to be thought of as getting their position because of affirmative action and not their qualifications.
3- It gave us Race Norming- This effected all public employment and promotion tests and college placement. This is how it worked. If the average test score for whites was 80%, and the average for blacks was 65%, then black people taking the exam would get an automatic 15 points added to their score to "normalize" the test. This was also done for hispanics. Now, if a white person and a black person both scored 80% on a test, the white person would be credited with an 80%, and the black person would be credited with a 95%.
4- It gave us forced busing- No one was happy with this. Kids were forced to ride buses for up to four or five hours just to get to school and back home.
5- It gave us the "race industry". I read an article by Shelby Steele who is an African American professor and a fellow of the Hoover Institute that said that during the civil rights movement he saw certain people aligned with the movement who were moving towards creating a business out of race based civil rights. We see those people today. People who have every reason to perpetuate racial tensions because if somehow, by miracle or other means. there was nothing for them to complain about, they would be homeless because this is the only way they know to remain wealthy.
6- It gave us a Federal government with an unlimited power to tax and spend and an ever growing voting block, dependent on them, to keep them in power. You see, minorities alone were not enough to do this. They needed to expand dependency in order to solidify power. Today close to 35% of our population is dependent on government and 65% are getting some kind of booty from the fed. And this is the kicker. Just under 50% of the population pay no income tax. So you have 50% of the population flipping the bill for the other 50%. Folks, this is unsustainable. It can't last. In 1965 25% of the federal budget went to entitlement spending. Today it is 65%. Much of which is borrowed money. This has created a 13 trillion dollar national debt which is going up by the billions every day. Someday we will all suffer for this.
In conclusion, I despise discrimination. I thank God for the civil rights movement. But giving the federal government, which is historically the most corrupt class of people in our country (They make corrupt bankers and wall street financiers look like boy scouts) this kind of unlimited power, I believe, will turn out to be trading discrimination for eventual tyranny from which nobody will be immune.

amednews: Physicians ask patients: What is this visit worth? :: May 24, 2010 ... American Medical News

amednews: Physicians ask patients: What is this visit worth? :: May 24, 2010 ... American Medical News I haven't been writing about health care lately, partly because I got burned out writing so much about reform before the law was passed and partly because I am unsure about what will happen next. That and the fact that there are so many other issues that need to be addressed led me to back away from it for awhile. I do post many health care articles on my twitter account, accessible from this blogsite, and I encourage you to read them and think about the many different opinions and points of view. No doubt about it we need to deeply reflect on the magnitude of the law just passed and what it will mean for providers and patients alike.

That being said, I just had to post this particular article here today because it strikes at the core issue of health care reform. Click on the link to find out what happened when some physicians decided to offer "pay-what-you-can" days to uninsured patients. Physicians set aside a day to let uninsured patients pay what they thought their doctor visit was worth. Patients paid anywhere from zero to a hundred dollars for a visit. What is fascinating about this is that the amounts paid reflected the VALUE rather than the actual COST of the visit. As a nurse practitioner I have often asked myself what patients would pay me if they had the choice. Would they be satisfied enough with the care I give them to pay me well, or would they pay me poorly? Would their payment reflect what they thought of my services or would it reflect their opinion of health care in general? Would they base their payment on the amount of time I spent with them or on the quality of advice and care I gave them?  If patients had the choice of what fee to pay their providers, would this make them more apt to seek health care on a regular basis? Do patients value their health and medical treatment enough to pay whatever it takes to recover from illness or maintain health? Would patients come to the doctor even if health care was free?

We heard a lot about issues such as cost and access during the health care reform debates but the question of how we value health care has not been fully explored. Yet it is probably the most important one because it drives how patients will use health care in whatever ultimate form it takes. Experiments such as "pay-what-you-can" days are great ways to assess how patients not only value health care in general but also how they feel about their particular provider's care. Certainly more studies in this area would be valuable as we enter the implementation phase of health care reform.

In the meantime I have decided to do an experiment of my own.  I do not work in a typical primary health care setting so I can't do a pay what you can day.  But I can ask my patients how much they think the treatments I offer are worth to them and what they would pay for them if they had a choice.  I will share with you at a later date what I find out.

US Gov't Funding Radical Mosque? WTF???

Oh now this is richly ironic and it would be downright laughable if it wasn't so serious and stupidly delusional.   Click on the title to read about how the US Census Bureau just signed a lease renting office space from Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, VA.  You can also enjoy reading about how the State Department uses it as a training center for diplomats and touts it as an wonderful example of American Islam.  Does the name of the center sound familiar?  It should.  It is the same mosque where top Al Qaida recruiter Amwar Awlaki, mosque leader, ministered to the Pentagon hijackers and radicalized the Ft Hood terrorist, the Times Square bomber, and the Underwear Bomber.  It is the same mosque that the Department of Homeland Security has warned is "an operating front for Hamas" and is "currently under investigation for financing and providing aid and comfort to bad organizations and members."  US Rep. John Carter, R-Texas, whose constituency includes Ft. Hood, is demanding that the government sever its lease and we can only hope that others follow suit.

My question is this.  Why are we bothering to fight long and expensive wars in Iraq and Afghanistan when we are so willing to give aid and comfort to the enemy right here at home?

D.C. Metro Police Escorted SEIU Protesters to Bank Of America Executive’s Home

D.C. Metro Police Escorted SEIU Protesters to Bank Of America Executive’s Home Unbelievably shocking! So the SEIU thought it would make its point by going right to the executive's house. Wow. That's real courageous. What is even crazier is that the DC Metro Police were there to protect the protesters! From what? Oh yeah...a 14 year old boy...hope they called out the whole force for that one! What is sad is that more and more things like this are going to happen in the future until one day someone fires the first shot. Then there will be no stopping the free fall into chaos. Wait a minute....that seems to be the idea....

GOPUSA » Commentary » Kincaid: Rand Paul's Libertarian Achilles' Heel Thoughtful article giving Conservatives a lot to consider in choosing political candidates. Mr. Kincaid gives a nice explanation of the difference between Conservatives and Libertarians that I think people of all political persuasions should heed as we go into the next two election cycles.

IMHO, a good caveat would be this: Vet your candidates thoroughly!

Pajamas Media » UCSD Students Seek Official Condemnation of Pro-Holocaust Statement A follow up to a previous post on the Muslim student who advocated support for a second holocaust at an event at USCD where David Horowitz was speaker. Click on this link to see the initial exchange between the student and Mr. Horowitz.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fSvyv0urTE&feature=player_embedded#!   The comments are the most interesting part of this article.  I find it fascinating that the student claims she didn't know what she was saying, she didn't understand the questions, that Mr Horowitz "confused" her and "twisted her words."  See the video for yourself and then you tell me whether or not Mr. Horowitz confused her.

Why Are American Doctors Mutilating Girls?

GOPUSA » The Loft » Freedom of Expression? Not if it's about Illegal Immigration

GOPUSA » The Loft » Freedom of Expression? Not if it's about Illegal Immigration  We have all heard about how the Phoenix Suns wore shirts that said "Los Suns" during a playoff game recently.  Now click on the link and read about how Phoenix Suns fan Jim Clark was kicked out of game 2 of the same playoffs by security when he wore a shirt that said "Viva Los 1070."  I don't know about you but I sure didn't hear about this in the MSM!  Looks like freedom of speech/expression no longer applies to all parties, especially to the politically incorrect side.  All I can say is that if Arizona's border patrol applied even a fraction of as much vigilance to the border as these security police did to Jim Clark then Arizona would have no illegal immigration problems at all!

Napolitano Hasn't Read the Law Either!

First Eric Holder, now Janet Napolitano.  Click on the title to hear Janet Napolitano say she hasn't read the Arizona law.  Although she has not read the law, she has rendered the verdict that it is a bad law and she would never sign it herself.  Without reading it.  Without having a clue what is in it.  What's up with our leaders not reading the bills and laws they either produce or are expected to  sign?????  Here's what's up.  Our leaders don't believe they have to read anything or know anything to make decisions.  They think the American people won't know the difference because we have no clue what they are supposed to be doing in the first place.  Unfortunately we have allowed them to get away with this kind of thinking for a long time so it really shouldn't surprise us when leaders such as Napolitano say dumb things.  The only way to change this mindset is for the American people to learn the business of government, to learn about the responsibilities of our appointed and elected representatives and leaders.  It is time we held them responsible and accountable for their job performance.  The biggest reason the government is in such a mess right now is that We The People have let our leaders go their own way with little oversight.  For example, little oversight and poor accountability created an environment where Congress developed a lot of their voting procedures, traditions, backroom deals, pork projects, and power grabs--a "culture of corruption" as Michelle Malkin would put it.  We are now reaping a the bitter harvest of our failure as a people to take charge of our government.  Can we reverse it?  I think so and I pray so.  The first thing is to believe that we CAN and SHOULD take charge, and we can affirm this through reading the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.  We are smart enough to do this and we have a responsibility to do it.  Secondly, we must educate ourselves by studying our founding fathers.  Then we need to learn about executive, legislative and judicial roles and responsibilities so that we can let our leaders know WE KNOW what they are supposed to be doing and that there will be consequences if they do not perform well.  We The People need to lay out our expectations for our leaders--honesty, accountability, intimate knowledge of the issues, requirements to read thoroughly all bills before voting on them or signing them, among other things.  If we start with these things we can make a huge difference.  How much of a difference, time will tell.  The next two elections will be our bell wether.  In the meantime let's get busy and get educated.  It's now or never!

Ted Turner-The BP Spill Might Be a Message From God

So now Mr. Mouth From The South thinks The BP disaster might be a message from God telling us not to drill for oil.  Hmmm...isn't this the same guy who a short time ago came out with his own set of ten commandments that he wanted enforced by the UN?  You know I can remember many years ago when CNN was an awesome news channel and Ted Turner wasn't so nutty.  What happened?

Muslim Demographics

As the population shrinks so does the culture.  Click on the title to see a fascinating video demonstrating how healthy growing cultures depend on growing populations.  I am not sure where these numbers come from but if they are accurate,  they are quite sobering to think about.  As the European, Asian and American populations are shrinking, Muslim populations are growing.  At the present rate of growth, they could dominate the world by the year 2050.  Looks like they are making pretty good progress!   I found it fascinating that the US Hispanic population helps to boost the total US population to the point where is is just barely sustainable.   Wow...guess we had all better get busy making some babies or we may not have a country or a culture by the middle of the century!

Muslim College Student Admits Being for Genocide Against Jews

Click on the title to read a revealing exchange between David Horowitz and a Muslim student.  He challenges her, asking if she condemns Hezbollah or Hamas.  She never says she does and changes the subject.  He continues to press her and she continues to avoid a direct answer.  Finally he asks her if she agreed with the Hamas leader when he said he would like all Jews to stay in Israel so he wouldn't have to hunt them down all over the world .  She said she would agree with him.  Wow.

Medical Group addresses Ritual Genital "Cutting" For Females

Click on the post title to read the recent New York Times article about the American Academy of Pediatrics' statement on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).  According to an AAP Bioethics Committee member in this article, ritual nicking is supposed to be like "getting your ears pierced" and losing only "a pin drop of blood."   Seems they were thinking that this milder form of "cutting" might be more acceptable to families, thus preventing them from sending their daughters overseas for the more drastic form.  Fortunately this attitude did NOT prevail in the AAP's final recommendations, but the fact that it entered the discussion at all is quite disturbing.

Click on this link to read the entire policy statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Bioethics concerning Ritual Genital Cutting of Female Minors:    http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/abstract/125/5/1088  The final recommendations read as follows:  "The AAP opposes all forms of FGM, counsels its members not to perform such ritual procedures, and encourages the development of community educational programs for immigrant populations."  The statement also includes an excellent explanation of the cultural reasons for cutting as well as pictures and descriptions of the various types of FGM.  While I am thankful that the final recommendations come out against FGM, I still have many concerns about this issue.

First of all the debate certainly reflects the issues providers face when working with immigrant populations, and the AAP is wise to meet it head on.  I can see how ritual nicking could be sold as a much better choice since it has a lot less side effects than the more extreme form.  The danger is in allowing ourselves, in the name of political correctness and cultural sensitivity, to become more accepting of the milder procedure just because it doesn't seem to do as much physical damage.  We may not be on the slippery slope yet but we certainly are approaching the edge.

Secondly, there is no way that we as providers should put ritual nicking in the same league as ear piercing and other forms of body art.  The difference here is ornamentation and choice.  In most cultures, body art is considered ornamentation.  In our culture, we choose whether or not we want our ears pierced, etc.  Not so with ritual nicking and FGM.  In this situation young girls are expected at best, forced at worst, to undergo a medically unnecessary procedure purely to make themselves a more attractive marriage and sexual partner!

Although it is important that we as medical professionals advocate for our patients, it is even more important to stand up and speak out against procedures that do more harm than good.  We need to stop being politically correct and call this procedure what it is--mutilation and the complete subjugation of one group's sexuality to another.  There are groups that are successfully fighting against RGMworldwide.  If the American medical profession shows tacit approval of FGM by condoning milder forms, it will completely undermine the progress these groups have made in this struggle.

It would behoove all of us to study the different forms of FGM as outlined in the AAP statement and reflect upon whether or not we can in good conscience recommend them to our patients.   Perhaps we should ask ourselves whether or not we would recommend them for ourselves and our  families and friends.  Because if we are not willing to recommend them for ourselves and our daughters we have no right to recommend them to anyone else.

Sanctioning Barbarity: American Academy of Pediatrics and the New York Times

Sanctioning Barbarity: American Academy of Pediatrics and the New York Times Well if this isn't the ultimate act of political correctness. In an effort to keep families from sending girls overseas for female genital mutilation (FGM), the American Academy of Pediatrics is advocating a "milder form of it" be performed here in the states under "medical supervision." What's next, beheadings under medical supervision to avoid rusty swords?? Medically supervised or not, barbarism is still barbarism!!! All female physicians belonging to the American Academy of Pediatrics should immediately resign membership in protest. The American Nurses Association and other professional nursing associations should issue statements against FGM and this incredibly stupid policy. Women's groups need to send letters to your senators, congressmen as well as the AAP demanding that this never take place in our country. If we allow FGM to happen here in the name of political correctness and misguided cultural sensitivity, no one will be safe anywhere in the world. Especially women.

Islam's Nowhere Men

What a terrible dilemma.  These guys have been raised and trained to hate the US and the West, but they live in the US and enjoy all the benefits.  Click on the title to read the article.  No doubt the media will try to spin this into a "we-need-to-feel-sorry-for-these-guys-because-they-are-confused-so-we-need-to-reach-out-to-them-so-they-won't-hurt-us" story.  But what we should be feeling now is anger at a horrible totalitarian system masquerading as a "religion" that has hijacked entire nations and is now threatening ours.  We need to wake up to the stone cold fact that the enemy exists and is here within our gates.  When I last read the Constitution the second amendment did not extend to totalitarian regimes.  We need to start looking at Islam as a system of government rather than a religion and revoke all second amendment rights.  We need to stop allowing mosques and schools directly funded by Muslim groups and nations to be built in our communities. We need to be vigilant concerning the influence Muslims are gaining public schools, colleges and universities.  If we have communities full of activists we can stand up to Islam.  There is strength in numbers.  No amount of political posturing, apologizing and reaching out will change this enemy's mind about us.  If our government won't stand up for us we must stand up for ourselves.  If you would like to be an activist go to http://www.actforamerica.org/.  It is an excellent community resource in the fight against Islam.

Tea Partiers and The Whole Racism Thing

Click on the title to see a great article about combating the racism taunts that tea partiers constantly hear these days.  My mother always taught me that when somebody calls you names to just ignore them.   That's what the author of this article is advising as well.  Wait until I tell my mom that a political science professor agrees with her!  In all seriousness, the longer I live the more I find out just how right my mom was about this and a lot of other things.  In my heart I know I am not a racist and I do not care what anyone else may say or think.  I don't like being called names but I am willing to endure it temporarily because I know the truth about myself.  No amount of name calling can diminish the truth.

Only CBS IDs Kagan as on Left; Others Tout Her as 'Powerhouse,' 'Accomplished Poker Player, Opera Lover' Who 'Loves Softball' | NewsBusters.org

Only CBS IDs Kagan as on Left; Others Tout Her as 'Powerhouse,' 'Accomplished Poker Player, Opera Lover' Who 'Loves Softball' NewsBusters.org Hmmmm...I love chocolate, red wine, dogs, cats and I cook a mean spaghetti sauce. Does this qualify me to be a supreme court justice? Geez! What is wrong with our news media?? I don't give a rats a$$ what Kagan's hobbies are. I care more about her track record, and where she stands on the issues. Let's hear some more about that now, shall we?

Obama Targets Military for Pay Reductions

Click on the title to read the article.  We already have enlisted troops that qualify for food stamps and WIC on their current salaries.  It is hard to imagine them being able to live on any less.  Even with better pay rates, military personnel still make less than their civilian counterparts in many fields.  I find it hard to believe that Congress is being "too generous" with the troops.  The Pentagon needs to get a grip and realize that good salaries improve retention and that keeping good people is critical to the war effort.  We can always get another tank or plane.  It's a lot harder to find exceptional personnel and we should do everything we can to keep them.

Civilization and Self Control

Click on the title to read a thought provoking article on male self-control and its link to establishing strong civilizations.  The author explores the Islamic view that self-control is impossible to achieve from within, and that it can only be achieved through externally applied forces (laws, burqas, etc.).  He contrasts this with the Christian belief that self control is possible by focusing on higher thoughts.  He then demonstrates that the key to a strong civilization is male-self control by highlighting the stark differences between Muslim civilizations and Western/Christian civilizations.  It is a fascinating cultural and religious study.

Some may question whether it is possible to have true self-control.  Certainly all Christians struggle with it to some degree.  Even St Paul had issues. In reading Romans 7: 14-25, I take comfort that if such a spiritual giant as Paul struggled with these things then surely there is hope for me!  I particularly like verses 24 and 25 when he says "Wretched man that I am!  Who will set me free from this body of death?  Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then on the one hand I myself with the mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin."   Paul goes on in Romans Chapter 8 to remind us that "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and of death (verse 2)" and that "the mind set on the flesh is death but the mind set on the spirit is life and peace (verse 6).  He also tells us in Galations Chapter 5 that if we walk by the Spirit we will not carry out the desires of the flesh (verse 16) and that self-control is one of the many good fruits of the Spirit (verse 22).

The difference between Islam and Christianity is that while Christians believe self control is possible through the Holy Spirit, Islamists believe it is not possible or necessary for anyone, men in particular, to exercise self-control.  Control comes only through following externally applied rules and making sure every one else follows them.  Men are not responsible for their actions;  their behavior depends entirely upon how others, especially women, behave.  What fascinates me is that this sort of attitude is very childish, very adolescent in nature.  It is as if an entire nation of males collectively suffered spiritual and emotional growth stunt with the advent of Islam!

The author suggests that the key to success is self-control, whether it is an individual or a nation.  Paul alluded to the same when he said, "when I was a child, I used to speak as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things (1 Corinthians 13: 11)."  Self-control is a sign of maturity and comes from walking closely with God and allowing the Holy Spirit to dwell within.  The Islamists have it half right.  It is impossible to have self control on our own.  If we try it by ourselves we end up struggling and crying out in frustration like Paul did in Romans Chapter 7.  Nor is self-control possible through external means.  Only through the Holy Spirit dwelling within us we can truly experience the beauty of self-control and all of the other wonderful gifts of the Spirit!  My prayer is that all will seek to know the joy of the Holy Spirit.  Blessings!

My Fellow Muslims, We Must Wake Up!

Click on the title to read an excellent article by Dr. Zuhdi Jasser calling for American-Muslims and all Americans to stand against radical Islam.  I only wish he and other Muslims would have taken this stand in 2001 and many other times since then.  Their silence on the subject of jihad has been troubling and created many problems.  Let's hope more Muslims have the courage to speak out so that we can work together to defeat radical Islam.

I do take issue with a couple of things in this article.  First of all, radical Islam IS the true Islam, as practiced during the days of Mohammed.  Muslims would have us believe there are two types, Islam and radical Islam.  Secondly, the Koran does not teach love and peace; instead it teaches the most extreme intolerance of Muslims who do not follow the tenets of Islam as well as non-Muslims.  Muslims who profess to want to live in love and peace most likely are looking for far more than Islam can offer them.  Perhaps they should have a look at Jesus.  Just a thought.

Nashville-How To Help

Here is a list of charities, organizations and events that are coming to the aid of flood victims in Nashville.

We Won't Have True Social Justice Until Everything Is Equal In Everybody's House

Click on the title to see the video of Al Sharpton making a fool of himself once again.  I am sure Al Sharpton won't mind sharing his millions with the rest of us.  Riiiiiight!  We won't go into to his tax evasion problems, etc.  Isn't it ironic that the Democrats who yell the loudest about social justice and sharing are always the ones with the most money?  The only thing they seem to be sharing with the rest of us is fancy rhetoric and hot air.

Doctors Tell Their Patients The Truth about Obama Care.

The AMA apparently is advising physicians to tread cautiously in explaining the new health care laws to patients, all in the name of patient privacy and sensitivity.  Ha!  Looks like most physicians aren't buying it and are not being shy about educating their patients.  That' s a good thing.  People need to know the truth about how these new laws will affect them.  I hope that the nurses step up to the plate as well.

Oops! Leftwing Blogosphere Forced Into Embarrassing Backtrack on Times Square Bomber ID | NewsBusters.org

Oops! Leftwing Blogosphere Forced Into Embarrassing Backtrack on Times Square Bomber ID NewsBusters.org Rats! The Times Square Bomber was a Muslim terrorist linked to Al-Qaeda after all! Click on the title to see the results of a Daily Kos poll as to the identity of the perpetrator. Only 4% thought it would be an Al-Qaeda terrorist; 32% thought it would be a teapartier and 30% thought it would be a militia wack-job! "Waterboard Sean" was certainly eating crow a couple days later and could only describe the poll results as..."interesting."

Interesting indeed. What we have here people is an enemy who is still the enemy no matter how much we try to perceive it as otherwise. We can negotiate, conciliate, apologize to it, bow down to it, give it perks to ensure good behavior and explain away it's bad behavior, but the bottom line is that it is still the enemy and it still wants to kill us. The Tea Partiers, militias, and religious folk are not the enemy of this country. Quite the opposite--they want to save it. It is imperative that we all wake up out of this dangerous coma of political correctness to the true nature of this enemy before it destroys us.

Rumbles hint that Mount Fuji is getting angry - physics-math - 05 May 2010 - New Scientist

Rumbles hint that Mount Fuji is getting angry - physics-math - 05 May 2010 - New Scientist I climbed Mt Fuji in 1985 and am still in awe at how beautiful it was at the top, looking down into the crater. My husband climbed a few years later and said the crater was steaming at the time. At the time it's pristine beauty and stillness belied that it was an active volcano. I cannot imagine what it would be like if this beautiful symbol of Japan would erupt. But it is a volcano and well....that's what volcanoes do every once in awhile.

Teens Sent Home for Wearing American Flag Shirts

Click on the title for details.  It would have been far better if the school had promoted both Cinco De Mayo and American heritage.  What would have been wrong with everyone in the school wearing shirts with Mexican and American flags on them?  What would have been wrong with promoting the heritage of both countries?  The teachers and administrators at this school should have explained to the kids who complained that they were part of America now and that both heritages needed to be celebrated.  Instead of promoting unity and harmony, they inflamed hatred and further division all in the name of political correctness.  Shame on them all.

National Day of Prayer Today

Today is National Day of Prayer.  Click on the title to read the transcript of Rabbi Eckstein's invocation.  I like it when he reminds us that the two greatest commandments are to "love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all your soul, and all your mind" and then to "love your neighbor as you love yourself."  On these two commandments the law is founded.  How amazing!  How wonderful!  May your day of prayer enrich your heart and soul, and help you touch others with God's gracious and boundless love.

Feminists and Franklin Graham

Click on the title to read an excellent article by Danielle Avel, a self-described modern feminist and gay activist.  Although she doesn't agree with Mr. Graham on many things she admires him for speaking the truth about how women are treated under Islam.  She questions why feminist groups remain silent on this issue, and she further questions why Iran is now on the UN Commission on Women.  Hers is the first feminist voice I have heard to speak up about this outrage.  I certainly hope I hear more.  I also hope I hear more from women's groups, religious and otherwise, and I seriously hope our UN Ambassador, Susan Rice, arises from her politically correct coma and starts speaking up.

I agree with Ms Avel when she says that Franklin Graham was disinvited from the Pentagon because he told the truth about Islam, not because he attacked Islam.  He has worked and traveled extensively in the Middle East and has seen first hand how women are treated.  He did not speak from some ivory tower, he spoke from experience.  No wonder groups like CAIR view him as a threat.  He is working to expose the truth about this so-called religion of Islam.

Make no mistake any religion that subjugates one group under another, or makes one group less than human, is a not a religion at all but a sadistic legalistic system of control.  In Islam, women are considered lesser beings, period, no matter what the culture.  Some cultures are even worse than the Middle East for their treatment of women.  Women everywhere need to rise up in defense of their sisters who cannot speak for themselves.  We need to stand up against such tyranny or we may be forced to accept a lower status if Islam gains control of this country.  It has been said that the true measure of a society is how it treats its women and children.  If we as a nation are to remain the light to the world, the beacon on the hill, we must ensure respectful and equal treatment of women.

So by now you are probably asking what you can do to fight this?  Write to UN Ambassador Rice today and demand Iran be taken off the Women's Commission.    Learn as much as you can about Islam and its treatment of women and "infidels."  Join organizations like Act for America and learn about how Islam is influencing your local community and schools.  Write letters to the editor of your local paper.  Engage people in conversation about these issues. Explain that you are not attacking anything or anyone but you are telling the truth about what you know.  Write to your senators and congressmen asking them to support legislation that preserves our values and defeats the growing Islamic influence.  Tell them to refrain from political correctness that will only destroy us in the end.

Above all, examine your heart and mind ,know what you believe, and step out in faith and love.  We have a message to get out to a fallen world.  Because Islam is a "religion" of power and control it can be very appealing to those who otherwise have no control.  We must expose this for the lie that it is and work to free people from it's influence.   We must act now, before it is too late.

Nashville Flood 2010: The Disaster You May Not Have Heard About | NewsBusters.org

Nashville Flood 2010: The Disaster You May Not Have Heard About NewsBusters.org Click on the title to read the article and be sure to click on the video to see an incredible display of pictures of the flood. I think you will agree that the media hasn't even begun to capture the magnitude of this event. The Nashville area got 14 inches of rain culminating in what has been called a 500 year flood. The stories are only beginning to emerge not only about the horrors of the flood but also about the charity, heroism and resilience of Nashville residents. Truly Nashville is an example of the American can-do spirit.  The article contains a list of places where you can contribute to relief efforts and I will post more as I find them. Most of all Nashville wants you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

By the way Nashville wasn't the only area that got hit hard with flooding.  Towns and communities across the Mid South area--Arkansas, Middle TN, KY--got hit with tornado damage as well as flooding.  Please keep us all in your thoughts and prayers as we help each other recover.

She Wasn't Even There

Ambassador Susan Rice was conspicuously absent when the UN voted Iran onto the Womens Commission, as well as to 3 other committees. Click on the title for details. Like Mr Grenell I find her silence on this not only astonishing but also frightening. What can we hope to gain in the UN by allowing Iran to sit on these committees? Why is Ambassador Rice not speaking out against this? I have said in a previous post that feminist and other women's groups around the world should be screaming about this. And yet...not a word...not a peep...from our Ambassador...from anyone. Wonder why? Maybe we have illusions that once Iran learns about the plight of women everywhere they will change their ways. More than likely however, this is part of the conciliatory, soft, hands-off, no harsh rhetoric stance we have chosen to take towards this country which would like nothing more than to destroy us. We are making a big mistake if we think that if we let Iran have some small bones that they won't want the whole feast. They not only want the whole feast, they intend to take the whole feast. And the Women's Commission is just the start. What's next? Allowing them to sit on the Commission for Gay Rights if there is one? Oh...wait...that's right...Ahmadinejah on his visit to Columbia did say there were no gays in Iran so he probably wouldn't want Iran representation on such a committee even if it did exist. Suffice to say that this decision, like many other UN decisions, makes absolutely no sense at all.

Back during the Civil War, women were fighting for the right to vote as well as abolition of slavery. The issue of abolition was allowed to take precidence as it was considered larger, more critical and more likely to win in the legislative arena. It wasn't until the early 20th century that women finally won the right to vote. I believe that if we don't speak up about the US allowing Iran to sit on the Womens' Commission we will be repeating the mistake we made with suffrage by allowing our issues to be placed on the backburner. In fact it seems pretty clear that women have once again been thrown under the bus for the greater good. Having Iran on this council will be a disaster as they have not shown any effort in changing their current treatment of women and are most likely to advocate even harsher treatment for women of the world. What could the US and Ambassador Rice have been thinking? What are we women thinking??

MSNBC's Contessa Brewer 'Frustrated' That Times Square Bomber Is a Muslim | NewsBusters.org

MSNBC's Contessa Brewer 'Frustrated' That Times Square Bomber Is a Muslim | NewsBusters.org Darn those pesky Muslims! They're still terrorists and now we can't blame the tea partiers! At least that is how this interview video comes across. Personally I think MSNBC should send Ms Brewer for remedial interview skills training at best or fire her at worst. No wonder MSNBC has such poor ratings.

Super Sniper Kills Taliban From a Mile and a Half Away

Click on the title for details. Wow...just wow. I think of all the times during 9mm pistol qualification that I was ecstatic just to hit the target! In the words of one of the commenters, "Bloody good shot mate!!" I am quite sure that Corporal Craig's unit is thankful to him for saving their lives. He certainly is a credit to the British army and it is obvious from the comments here that he is a hero. My prayer is that he return to his home and family safely and that he will be at peace. Well done, soldier.

Why Muslims Regard Images of Muhammad As Blasphemous

Fascinating. It is important to understand why they think images of Muhammed are so bad. So do we stop depicting Muhammed out of respect or out of fear?

Times Square Car Bomb--Police Investigate South Park Link

They are still investigating but it would seem that the car parked by the Viacom Building would be a good first clue. As Mark Steyn would say, Afghanistan and Iraq are just side shows for jihadists now. The real theater is New York, Chicago, etc. I would say it is rapidly becoming Anywhere, USA.

Women At Arms--a Combat Role, and Anguish Too

Click on the title to read one of a series of articles from The New York Times written about women veterans. As a recently retired Air Force nurse (Colonel), I am ever grateful to all who serve our country and I appreciate the author's efforts to highlight the triumphs and struggles of women veterans. I encourage you to take the time to read all the comments as they really add to the richness of the article and the discussion. While there are a few who think women shouldn't be in the military or in combat, most commenters are grateful for the service and sacrifice of all women vets, and that's a good thing, a step in the right direction. No doubt about it we need to work with our current government on all levels, especially the VA, to ensure the very best treatment of our vets when they return from war.

Some of the commenters seemed to think that focusing on the struggles of these women does more harm than good, that it perpetuates their "victim" status. I disagree. The first step to solving a problem is to identify the problem and acknowledge it exists. A lot of the anguish experienced here is related to lack of recognition and validation--of the problem itself, of women's status as vets, of combat related status, and just plain recognition of service. Even with more women joining the service and taking on more combat roles, there is still a tendency to overlook them as "real" vets. Recognition, then validation are the first steps to healing.
