Swine Flu National Emergency Declaration-What Does It Mean?

Click on the title to read an excellent explanation of the President's National Emergency Declaration that should clear up misconceptions and hopefully dispel the rumors about martial law, etc. that are currently circulating. The declaration is actually limited and purely administrative in nature, put in place in an effort to be pro-active in removing barriers that would keep people from getting timely treatment. There is no mention of or plans for martial law, quarantine or anything else that extreme. Indeed, the circumstances right now do not call for extreme measures. Do we have a big problem? Yes. Is it getting worse? Yes but it is still confined to specific high risk groups. Can the President still declare martial law? Yes he could in the future as he has that authority but he does not have that authority under this particular declaration. The best thing we all can do right now is stay alert, stay informed and do our part to stay healthy and not spread the disease.

Salute the American People!

I wholeheartedly agree with Mr Towrey's idea to nominate the American People for Time Magazine's Person of the Year Award. Click on the title to read his great article about the perseverance and endurance of all of us during these trying times. Awesome!

It's official! Obama declares an H1N1 swine flu national emergency. So what?

Posted using ShareThis Click on the title to read the article. The comments attached to this are particularly telling. As a nurse practitioner I am well aware that we have a problem with swine flu and that it could certainly get much worse. But I also believe we do not need a national emergency declaration at this point. The flu mostly affects those with high risk conditions. Ambulance services are not carting victims to the ER in droves. The time to initiate a national emergency is best initiated when the disease puts everyone at risk for mortality. The administration may have good intentions in trying to be proactive but initiating a national emergency prematurely creates negative perceptions of fabricated crises, powergrabs, and political posturing to get health care reform passed. If people believe this now, what will happen when we truly need a national emergency declaration? The timing of this could not have been more unfortunate as it is occuring at the same time our legislators are crafting health care reform. It certainly looks to me like the administration is acting on its philosophy not to waste a good crisis and it is quite evident many others think so as well. Whether they intended it this way is subject to debate. What I know for sure is that the perceptions and misperceptions generated by such posturing can put an entire nation at risk.

The "Ridiculous" Health Care Constitutionality Question

The “Ridiculous” Health Care Constitutionality Question

Posted using ShareThis Fascinating article and discussion about the constitutionality of individual mandates as pertains to health care.

Obama Offers Millions In Muslim Technology Fund

Click on the title to read Andrew Breitbart's article concerning millions of dollars in private company funds to be released in the form of grants to help Muslim nations improve technology, including the internet. The first grants will be released next June.

Doesn't it make you wonder why we are so eager to support tech/internet development in other countries while at the same time controlling and restricting it here at home? Hmmm....

Funds for Iranian Technology Programs--Defense Bill

When I was searching the Defense Bill for the section on the Matthew Sheppard Hate Crimes Act, I just happened to see Section 1245 on Page 730 concerning the Iranian Electronic Education, Exchange and Media Fund. The section reads as follows: this fund "will support the development of technologies including websites to aid the Iranian people to gain access and share information; exercise freedom of speech and freedom of assembly through internet and other electronic media; engage in internet-based education programs between Americans and Iranians; and counter efforts to block, censor and monitor the Internet and disrupt or monitor cellular phone networks..." The section then goes on to state that "to support these objectives, grants will be given to foreign and US universities, non-profit organizations or companies for targeted projects that advance the purpose of this fund."

Here are some project examples: "Developing Farsi language versions of existing social network sites; developing technology and applications, including internet-based applications to counter efforts to block or censor the internet or to disrupt cell phone networks/SMS text messages, and the development of internet-based distance learning projects promoting religious and cultural exchange."

Twenty million dollars have been allocated to this fund.

On the surface it sounds very good and noble. Everyone remembers the heroism of the tweeters after the Iranian elections. We should help them right? It seems certainly like the right thing to do. However, we need to ask ourselves some very important questions. Why are we allocating funds to help other countries gain freedom of speech, assembly and communication when we are allowing the FCC to advance plans for Internet Neutrality which will impose burdensome government regulations and restrictions on our internet here at home, quite possibly leading to total government control of all internet communications? Why are our legislators holding hearings on supporting freedom of speech and release of bloggers from prison in Vietnam (see my previous post about this--HR 672) when at the same time they and the WH are becoming increasingly hostile to internet and media dissenting opinion here in America? It makes no sense at all to funnel serious cash towards programs to support free speech and better communication in other countries while stifling it at home!

Contact your reps immediately and let them know you know about this section of the Defense Bill. Ask them how they plan to protect free speech here at home. Tell them to support Senator McCain's efforts to block the FCC from initiating Internet Neutrality! Ask them if they even knew this section was in the Defense Bill. After all, it was over 1500 pages long and if they had no plans to read the Health Care Bill because it was too long it stands to reason they didn't read this one either! Demand that they stand up for internet and other forms of media freedom of speech right here in America before they allocate one more dollar to helping free speech in other countries! We want to help...but we can't help if we sacrifice ourselves and our country in the process!

Heritage Foundation--Obamacare Round One Knockout

Here is an exerpt from an email sent to me today from the Heritage Foundation:

October 23, 2009 By Amanda Reinecker

First Senate health care vote flops
President Obama has repeatedly claimed that America is closer to passing health care reform than ever before. But proponents of big-government health care nevertheless suffered a major setback on Wednesday when the first Senate floor vote on health care legislation failed with only 47 votes in favor.
Senators voted not to act on a $247 billion "doctors' fix" that would have blocked scheduled costs savings in Medicare. This legislation is formally separate from the health care "reform" proposal, but it's nonetheless an integral part of the overall package, so its defeat is telling.
The vote, which Heritage Foundation expert Brian Darling dubs "round 1 of the battle over Obamacare," represents a major victory for conservatives who, from the beginning, have argued that real reform should be principled, fiscally responsible and bipartisan.
Detaching this legislation from the broader health care reform bill was part of a White House "strategy to smooth passage of President Barack Obama's $1 trillion-plus health care overhaul by transferring a quarter of its cost into a separate, and completely unpaid for, bill," explains Heritage's Conn Carroll in The Morning Bell.
Every Republican Senator and 13 fiscally-conscious Democrats (including Connecticut's Joe Lieberman) saw through this "transparently dishonest shell game" and voted down the measure.
A long history shows that promised Medicare cuts -- an effort to control runaway spending on the entitlement program -- rarely come to fruition. The cuts are either frozen or, when implemented, are undone after the fact. And, as in this case, lawmakers rarely offset the cost of the restored Medicare spending with cuts elsewhere, which simply adds to the budget deficit.
"The moment this became a fiscal and moral gut check, the people prevailed and the special interests lost," writes Heritage Vice President Michael Franc on National Review Online.
This was the first real demonstration of bipartisanship in the health care debate, and the Left lost. "A bipartisan majority rejected the Democrat leadership's attempt to add another quarter-trillion dollars to the national credit card without any plan to pay for it," McConnell said. "With a record deficit and a ballooning national debt, the American people are saying enough is enough."
> Other Heritage work of note
Heritage experts are working harder than ever to make sure the public has access to the facts and conservative principles on issues like health care, big-government spending and the war on terror. For example, since January, Heritage experts have made nearly 1,000 television appearances, conducted over 1,700 radio interviews and been cited over 6,800 times in print and online news publications. With several months left in 2009, these numbers already significantly surpass those from all of 2008. » Watch Heritage's recent television appearances.
Top administration officials are attacking Fox News for its bias, with even President Obama saying the network "operat[es] basically as talk radio." Of course, this ignores other media outlets' strong liberal bias. And as Heritage Vice President Mike Gonzalez explains, "with news commoditized," networks differentiate themselves by their opinion content. The administration wouldn't be "doing the nation or democracy any favors by depriving it of the only national television outlet that breaks the left's monopoly on news."
Social networking is nothing new, writes Heritage national security expert James Carafano. What used to be done at cocktail parties and weekend picnics is now done online through tools like Twitter and Facebook. But though the medium is new, the risks of these interactions remain the same for those in government: secret, dangerous or false information can be easily disseminated. "As Washington embraces social networking, it needs to think more about how it will protect against these kinds of anti-social activities that will inevitably make their way online," Carafano argues.
At the core of American constitutionalism is the rule of law, the notion that all laws apply to everyone equally. "But one powerful group in our democracy rarely misses a chance to exempt itself from laws that apply to the rest of us," writes Heritage Vice President Stuart Butler. "We're talking about members of Congress." Many lawmakers support proposals that would give Big Labor the upper hand in organizing elections joining unions. But this wouldn't apply to Congress' own workers, perhaps because members of Congress understand the downsides of unionization. If it's a great idea for the private sector, Butler maintains, "then presumably it's a great idea for Congress as well."
> In other news
A federal judge has upheld Craigslist's right to display ads for prostitutes on its online listing service. The website has agreed to require credit cards and contact information for those posting such ads.
Former Vice President Dick Cheney, a strong defender of the former administration's national security policies, is now accusing the current administration of libeling its predecessor and spreading untruths about its interrogation policies.
Iran is unwilling to renounce its right to enrich uranium to weapons-grade purity.
The White House is walking back its extraordinary claims about the "stimulus" legislation. A top administration economist admits that the $787 spending bill will likely have minimal effects going forward. In addition, she said unemployment will remain above 9.5 percent for another year -- this after the administration claimed the program would cap unemployment at eight percent.
As a result of the federal government's spending binge, Congress will soon have to increase the national debt limit to more than $13 trillion. A more serious reform would rein in runaway spending and pare back waste.

Defense Bill H2647 and more about Hate Crimes

Here is the Defense Bill in it's entirety--over 1500 pages! Click on the title for your reading pleasure! On page 1073 you will find the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act. The bad news is that many of our reps were forced to vote for the Hate Crimes Bill in order to get the much needed Defense Bill passed. Had this bill stood alone in its original form, it most likely would not have passed as it was unpopular, too broad and left too much to interpretation. Attaching it to the Defense Bill virtually ensured its passage. Lessons learned about the muling process--never think a bill is gone, always look for it to reemerge somewhere else in some other form.

That being said there is good news in that they strengthened and clarified the language concerning protection of free speech and religion, among other things. First of all, on page 1073, there is clarification between bodily injury and "solely emotional or psychological harm to the victim." In other words there has to be an actual physical injury sustained by the victim. Hopefully this will keep people from suing clergy for psychological harm inflicted by a sermon, etc. On page 1075 lists protections for free speech and religion which hopefully will provide more protection for clergy and others speaking out against homosexuality. This language was not as clear in the original bill. There is no doubt in my mind that the clarifications are a direct result of constituents contacting their reps concerning the Hate Crimes Bill. If it hadn't been for your efforts the Hate Crimes Bill might have--would have--been passed in its original form and would have been open to all sorts of interpretation. Now at least for the time being it seems free speech and religion are protected. It isn't perfect by any means. I would have preferred the Hate Crimes Bill to be defeated altogether but I take comfort in that at least there has been some effort to preserve our constitutional rights. Even with this success, we must remain ever vigilant.

Hate Crimes Bill Passes

The Hate Crimes Bill passed today as part of the Defense Bill. Supposedly it has strenthened provisions to keep it from being used to prosecute clergy for speaking out against homosexuality. Time will tell!

The Two Facedness of Congress in Protecting Internet Freedom

Did you know that there is a House Resolution pending that calls for the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to respect internet freedom and release imprisoned bloggers? Click on the title to read the resolution in its entirety. Then please read the following email, here in its entirety, from Phil Kerpen of Americans For Prosperity concerning the pending FCC vote on Internet Neutrality:

"As important as all the fights are that we're in right now, perhaps the biggest of all is the fight over whether the government will take over the Internet. That's because as long as the Internet is free, we can use it to communicate, educate, and organize. Tea parties, townhalls, and AFP events would be very difficult to organize if government owned and controlled the Internet and chose to interfere with it. That's what's at stake this week as the Federal Communications Commission decides on Thursday whether to move forward with so-called "net neutrality" regulations.
The net neutrality movement is an outgrowth of the larger so-called media reform project of radical left-wing activists like Robert McChesney who seek to destroy private control of the country's communications systems.
I discussed McChesney and the so-called media reform movement last night on the Glenn Beck show, and you can watch that clip here. I'll be on with Glenn again tonight to discuss net neutrality specifically.
As the Internet Freedom Coalition shows on our Net Neutrality Scare Ticket it has now been nearly 7 years since the November 19, 2002 letter that started the net neutrality scare, without a single significant incident of the kind of egregious behavior by evil phone and cable companies we're told require government intervention. It's a solution in search of a problem.
Net neutrality sounds simple--force phone and cable companies to treat every bit of information the same way--until you realize that modern networks are incredibly complex, with millions of lines of code in every router. Making sure services like VoIP, video conferencing, and telemedicine (not to mention the next great thing that hasn't been invented yet) get priority may be necessary to make the Internet work. But the government is working to do just the opposite.
These networks cost billions of dollars to build and maintain, and if there is uncertainty whether there will be a good return on that investment, private investment will dry up. And then government will step in, spending billions of our tax dollars on a government-owned and controlled Internet.
That's their plan.
The push for a Washington takeover of the Internet is coming from the White House. It includes Susan Crawford, the so-called Internet Czar, who told The Wall Street Journal in April that the $7.2 billion of stimulus money for broadband she is helping spend is a "down payment on future government investments in the Internet." She went on to say: "We should do a better job as a nation of making sure fast, affordable broadband is as ubiquitous as electricity, water, snail mail or any other public utility."
It comes right from the top. President Obama himself said on the campaign trail: "I will take a backseat to no one in my commitment to Net Neutrality."
The FCC will vote Thursday on what it calls a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Net Neutrality. If it passes, it will start a public comment period and I'll be emailing you again with instructions on how to file comments. But for the next couple days, we need to make our case against the FCC even taking that first step down the road to a Washington takeover of the Internet.
Here's what you can do to help: The FCC created a website at http://capwiz.com/americansforprosperity/utr/1/OEXZLMDLCY/GDHFLMDTVH/4116295206 where you can comment on government regulating the Internet under so-called net neutrality rules. The left has been flooding it with comments. Please take a moment to head over to http://capwiz.com/americansforprosperity/utr/1/OEXZLMDLCY/OSZXLMDTVI/4116295206 and click on "Join the Discussion" to make your voice heard for keeping the Internet in private hands.
Thanks for all you do.
Phil Kerpen

Now that you have read both the House Resolution and Mr. Kerpen's letter, ask yourself if it makes any sense at all to call out Vietnam concerning internet freedom when our legislators seem so willing to sacrifice it here at home. Then write your Congressmen and tell them to spend less time regulating and more time preserving internet freedom right here in America!

Rep Myrick Responds to CAIR

This is part of an email from the organization Act For America. Please read it carefully so you will learn the truth about CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations). This is not a benign organization, as much as they would like you to think it is. Rep Myrick's Op-Ed is very profound and quite an eye-opener!

Visit our News page
Rep. Myrick Responds to CAIR Attacks CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) and its allies in the media are waging an all-out offensive against Rep. Sue Myrick and the other courageous Members of Congress who last week called for a federal investigation of CAIR. CAIR has engaged in its typical disinformation efforts to change the subject and attempt to discredit the messengers. The American people need to hear the facts about this. That’s why today we are forwarding you an op-ed written by Rep. Myrick (see below). Please read it carefully and then forward it to everyone you know, especially people who have blogs and who submit content to blogs and websites. This is also the time to use your social networking sites … Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Linked-In, etc. to get the word out. It is critical that the FACTS about this issue squash the LIES. If not, then the lies are what become reality. Remember, YOU ARE THE POWER BEHIND THIS ORGANIZATION. This is an example of how you can demonstrate that power and make a difference. Thank you for taking action TODAY!

Rep. Sue Myrick op-ed: Last week, I held a press conference on Capitol Hill attended by three of my colleagues in the House of Representatives to call for a federal investigation (s) into a non-profit group called the Council on American Islamic Relations (C.A.I.R.) Here are the facts: 1. CAIR has documented ties to the terrorist organization HAMAS. This is stated fact by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). In an April 28, 2009 letter to US Senator Jon Kyl, the FBI wrote the following: “As you know, CAIR was named as an unindicted co-conspirator of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development in the United States v. Holy Land Foundation et al. (Cr. No. 3:04-240-P (N.D.TX.). During that trial, evidence was introduced that demonstrated a relationship among CAIR, individual CAIR founders (including its current President Emeritus and its Executive Director) and the Palestinian Committee. Evidence was also introduced that demonstrated a relationship between the Palestinian Committee and HAMAS, which was designated a terrorist organization in 1995. In light of that evidence, the FBI suspended all formal contacts between CAIR and the FBI.” In case you are not familiar with the Holy Land trial referenced above, it was a Dallas, Texas trial that ended with guilty verdicts on 108 counts of funneling money ($12 million) to HAMAS. 2. The purpose of our press conference was to make public an internal CAIR memo that documented CAIR's stated goal of placing CAIR interns in the offices of members of Congress, especially the members who serve on the Homeland Security, Judiciary and Intelligence Committees. Let me be clear here, CAIR, a group whom the FBI says is affiliated with the terrorist group HAMAS, is trying to place their interns in the offices of those members who serve on the three committees that handle national security related issues. National Security is the first responsibility of the federal government. 3. Following our press conference, CAIR, immediately labeled we four members as bigots and started their public relations campaign to discredit us by claiming that we were against Muslims working on Capitol Hill. We never said that. At no time during our press conference did we even insinuate that we were investigating Muslims being interns on Capitol Hill. Go to http://www.youtube.com/suemyricknc09 and watch the press conference yourself. Our focus was and is on CAIR and CAIR alone, not Muslims. Likewise CAIR tried to make this a Republican vs. Democrat thing, because the four members at the press conference happened to be Republican. How then does CAIR explain Democrat Senator Charles Schumer’s call earlier this year for a government-wide ban on CAIR in the federal government due to their ties to HAMAS? Democrat Senator Barbara Boxer has likewise made public her opinions of CAIR and any Google search will find her remarks. 4. CAIR is spending time, money and energy to position themselves as the spokespeople for the moderate Muslim community. Problem is CAIR is not a moderate Muslim organization. It is a radical front group for HAMAS. So who is CAIR competing with for this designation? The real moderate Muslim groups/individuals in America. Groups and individuals like the following who are committed to countering Islamist extremism: Dr. Hedieh Mirahmadi – President World Organization for Resource Development and Education (WORDE) Zeyno Baran – Director for the Center for Eurasian Policy at the Hudson Institute Farid Ghadry – President of the Reform Party of Syria Manda Zand Ervin – Founder and director of the Alliance of Iranian Women Omran Salman – Arab Reformists Project, 'Aafaq (Arabic for “horizons”). Dr. Zuhdi Jasser – American Islamic Forum for Democracy Karim Bromund – Director of Inter-Religious Affairs for the Islamic Supreme Council of America I SUPPORT the Muslim individuals and groups mentioned above. These groups renounce terrorists and their radical ideology. They are trying their hardest to be heard and recognized in America, but are being overshadowed and out-funded by CAIR. Today, when something happens that impacts the Muslim community, the media calls CAIR (an unindicted co-conspirator to terrorism and a HAMAS front group) for comment on behalf of American Muslims. What an insult the media is performing on the Muslim community. Instead they should be calling Muslim groups/individuals like those named above. This is part of the reason we are focusing our attention on CAIR and exposing them for who they are. For one they pose a threat to our national security, and two, they deny the ability of legitimate Muslim groups to gain credibility. 5. In July of this year I held a summit on Capitol Hill where I introduced the leaders of eight moderate Muslim organizations to the heads of several US Agencies, Members of Congress and congressional staff. For example, they met with representatives from the State Department, USAID, Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense. How can I be against Muslims working on Capitol Hill and hold such an event? Go to http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/id.3881/pub_detail.asp and read for yourself about this summit. See through the lies and realize what is really going on here. We are trying to expose a HAMAS Front Group (CAIR) for who they are, and they are crying we are anti-Muslim hoping that media outlets will ignore the terrorist claim and instead pick it up as a race/religion story. When those claims don’t work, they claim it’s a Republican political thing. Americans, on this subject we need to stop the Republican vs. Democrat, Conservative vs. Liberal, Christian vs. Muslim division and unite on one simple point…. CAIR is a front group for HAMAS. It was named as an un-indicted co-conspirator in a terrorism case that lead to 108 convictions of funneling $12 million to HAMAS. Because of the evidence produced in that case, the FBI severed all ties with them. This same CAIR, by their own admission, is trying to place people inside the offices of members of Congress who deal with national security issues (judiciary, homeland security and intelligence committees). I serve on one of those committees, Intelligence, am the co-chairwoman of the House Anti-Terrorism Caucus, and have spent the better part of the last four years working every day on terrorism related issues. If we Americans fail to set aside our political, religious and ideological differences and unite when we encounter the enemy in such stark and plain terms, then God help us.

New Malpractice Idea in Health Care Debate

Not a great idea but at least they are talking about it now.

White House blasted for assault on Fox News

White House blasted for assault on Fox News

Everyone concerned about free speech should be outraged over this White House attack. If we lose free speech it will profoundly affect us all. Wake up America before it is too late!!! Look at what is happening! We have an administration who is systematically trying to dismantle every single one of our core tenets and values right before our very eyes! How long are we going to put up with this?? Read the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence! Understand that We The People are the only ones who can preserve our freedoms. Don't buy what they are telling you, that they are doing it for your own good and for the good of the country. Attacking a news station like this, threatening the ability to speak freely is for the good of no one. Understand this as well--once our freedoms are gone we may never get them back. We have freedom of speech now--do your part to protect it! Contact your reps and let them know this is intolerable. Be brave and contact the White House as well and tell them to step away from attacks on free speech! We are the only ones who can do this and it is time to take a stand!!

Sunstein: Economic Crises Could Nudge Us Towards Socialism

Well, well, well--click on the title to read more nudging from Comrade Sunstein, our new regulatory czar. Bring on those economic crises so we can get right down to the business of becoming a socialist country! Apparently in Mr Sunstein's opinion, we would be better off as a socialist country. But he seems to ignore three basic facts of history. First fact--our country was founded and settled by people who hated what was going on in Europe and other countries. They didn't like monarchies, dictatorships, famine, disease, poverty, overcrowding in the cities, limited opportunities and just plain being bossed around. The fact that immigrants continue to flock to this country in containers on cargo ships, 18 wheelers, rafts and any other way they can get here seems to be lost on Mr Sunstein. Answer this Mr Sunstein--if this country is so bad why are people still sacrificing and in some cases killing themselves to get here? Ah, perhaps you have hit on the ultimate solution to illegal immigration. If our country becomes just like the countries they are trying to leave, immigrants won't want to come here anymore--yeah, that's it!

The second fact of history Mr Sunstein insist on ignoring is that socialism and communism don't work and this is mainly because of the first fact. People don't really like them and eventually they tend to rebel against them. Socialism would actually be a step backwards for us as a country. It will not make us more prosperous or more productive or more content. We will end up hating it just as much as our ancestors did and we will seek freedom once more. But here is the rub. We already have freedom now. If we throw it away in pursuit of the false promises of socialism and big government, it will be a long, painful process to get it back and there is no guarantee we can get it back at all. It took our fledgling country hundreds of years before we finally realized the dream of freedom and independence. It may take even longer for us to get it back if we let it go this time.

The third fact of history being ignored here by Mr Sunstein and many others is that socialistic governments don't have to be the inevitable result of external forces nudging us. Our very existence as a country proves we can withstand those forces if we have the will to do so. We can proactively push back against the nudging but it will take collective resolve to preserve our current freedoms and way of life. It will take a country full of people awake, alert and aware of the danger we face in losing everything our ancestors fought for. It will take a collective--even a world--dream of a place where everyone can live free. It is up to us as Americans to preserve it but how can we when we accept the presence of leaders like Mr Sunstein who so obviously do not have these interests at heart? If Mr Sunstein insists on ignoring these facts of history it is up to us to educate him. I can only hope we have the will, resolve and heart to do so before it is too late.

First Citizen of the World

Fantastic piece by Dr Zero from Hot Air. There should be no doubt in anyone's mind that awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama so early in his Presidency is but one of many efforts to influence American Politics. For example, isn't it supremely ironic that both major political parties are financed and influenced by two of the most powerful and influential foreign men in the world--George Soros of the Democratic Party (founder of MoveOn.org) and Rupert Murdock of the Republican Party? And there are many other influences to numerous to mention, some small some large, some known and unknown. It seems like everyone else in the world at large has a vested interest in America except Americans themselves. I have been saying all along that it is time for us to wake up and get back to the basic values and principles that gave birth to this country. But we do not live in isolation. If the world has lost its vision of what America should stand for, if we have lost our world status as a beacon of light and hope to the world we will drift ever closer to a new world order where America will simply exist (if we are lucky) rather than shine. But it doesn't have to happen that way. If we wake up in time we can save ourselves, our country and our way of life. The question is, do we have the will to do so?

Daughter saves mother, 80, left by doctors to starve - Times Online

Daughter saves mother, 80, left by doctors to starve - Times Online

Shared via AddThis A horror story indeed of badly handled last days care in the UK. If you think it won't happen here think again. Rationing is just too tempting a way to save money. Just think, these institutions are allowing people to die and it is all legal and justified under national health care! The authors of our current health care bills claim that there are a lot of misconceptions and misrepresentations about rationing, among other things. My question is how can they look at a case like this and guarantee it would not happen here? They want you to believe there will be no rationing but if you believe that I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. All the bills and their markups are paving the way for rationing. It won't happen right away but it will happen as we are being nudged, prodded and sweet talked towards socialistic care.

Congress to Obama: Lose Jennings

Apparently Congress is sending letters to the President saying get rid of Safe School Czar Kevin Jennings. About time! Remember what I said about floating controversial people and/or ideas, then withdrawing them when there was an outcry against them? Here we go again! Look for Mr Jennings to surface somewhere else if he is dismissed. I don't think we have seen the last of him.

And another one gone and another one gone and another one bites the dust....

It is a list of bills pending in the House that National Gun Rights either supports, is neutral about, or opposes. I was amazed at how many there are on the list, most of them opposed by gun rights groups because they are a direct assault on the 2nd Amendment. Check them out and contact your reps accordingly!

House Passes Defense Bill--and Hate Crimes Bill

Here is a perfect example of muling, the process of attaching an unpopular bill to one more likely to pass. This is how you get the strange coupling of defense and hate crimes. How did they rationalize attaching hate crimes to defense? Why the military "don't ask don't tell" policy of course! So now we have the crazy situation of Democrats who voting for the defense bill so they can get the hate crime bill passed and Republicans voting against the defense bill so they can vote against the hate crimes bill! It's a crazy legislative world and it just goes to show you that you have to track certain bills very carefully. For example, US Rep Harry Reid (D-Nevada) has threatened to use this same process to get the Health Care Reform Bill passed if it doesn't pass on its own. Muling usually involves a lot of wheeling and dealing, behind-scenes-meetings and informal discussions. You would be shocked at how many deals are made over lunch and during golf games. Thus it is important never to take it for granted that a bill won't pass. If reps are determined to get something passed they have many avenues at their disposal so even if an unpopular bill is defeated the first time around always look for it to surface either in another form or attached to something else. The best defense (no pun intended) is to be thoroughly educated in the legislative process and let your reps know you are aware of the process and you are watching closely.

By the way, the Defense/Hate Crimes Bill is expected to pass the Senate. There is still time to contact your Senators and demand they vote against it but don't be surprised if your Senator votes for it just to get the Defense Bill passed. Be very aware though that its passage will mean we will be stuck with a Hate Crimes Bill that misguidedly extends protection to pedophiles and exposes clergy to potential prosecution if they speak out against homosexuality. The best thing to do is contact your Senators and let them know you know about the Hate Crimes Bill. Demand that they defeat the Defense Bill in its current form and start over without the Hate Crimes Bill attachment. Demand that pedophiles not be included Hate Crimes Bill protections and above all demand protection for clergy! Remember stay alert, stay informed and stay tuned in to the legislative process!

Cass Sunstein--Americans Too Racist for Socialism, and Let's Nudge Everyone Towards "Better Decisions"

I was going to write about this yesterday, sounding off about being called racist for the umteenth time, but couldn't finish the article due to technical difficulties. Now I am glad I had to wait because I just got an email this morning from The National Republican Trust concerning the upcoming release October 9th of their book Shadow Government: What Obama Doesn't Want You to Know About His Czars, that has apparently "rocked official Washington." It made me realize that Mr Sunstein's rascist insults were just the tip of the iceberg of his extremely radical, socialist--even communist views. If you don't think his anti-gun, anti-hunting, pro-tax and spend, pro-universal health care, pro-regulating talk radio and Internet blogs views are scary enough, click on the title of this article to read about how he envisions rewriting our Constitution by 2020 to embrace socialism/communism. Apparently this man has long been an advocate of using government power to "nudge" people towards "better decisions" and in fact, according to Scott Wheeler, Mr Sunstein has written a book called Nudge: Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth and Happiness. I have not read this book but judging from the title I would say that now that Mr Sunstein heads up the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) he has the perfect platform to start nudging us. I have written before about how this administration is gently guiding us towards their agenda. Any doubts that we are being nudged, prodded, and guided towards a socialistic government and lifestyle should be put to rest now.
According to Scott Wheeler, Executive Director of The National Republican Trust, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing earlier this week on the constitutionality of the czars and "additional hearings are expected in the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee." The larger issue at hand, however, is how in the heck these czars got their jobs in the first place. In Mr. Sunstein's case, he was confirmed by the Senate. In fact seven Republican senators voted with the Democrats for cloture and cleared the way for his nomination to go to the senate floor for a vote. If these seven GOP senators had held the line, the nomination would have been blocked! Clearly there is something very wrong with the confirmation and vetting process. Either everyone in the senate is deaf, dumb and blind or they know--and support--the radical views of these czars. It will be interesting to follow the results of the hearings. I wonder if the hearings will really result in a change in the process. Or will this be another "oh-darn-we-were-caught-pull-back-on-this-because-the-country-isn't-ready-for-it- yet" moment? If you look closely you will see a pattern of action and reaction that this administration follows. It goes like this--something controversial is introduced and then when there is an outcry against it it is retracted, only to be reintroduced later usually in another form. This is the "nudging" process in a nutshell. They will keep trying until they find a way to get people to accept their views. Make no mistake, we are in the process of being gently guided and "nudged" toward a socialistic world. Will we wake up in time or will we accept it?

Although these issues are large and profound, I see an even larger issue ahead of us. Let's just say Mr Sunstein gets his chance to re-write the Constitution in 2020. Will there be anyone left with any knowledge of the original Constitution around to fight for the principles and tenets that gave birth to our country? Will there be anyone left who cares about freedom? I believe with all my heart that we must do all we can to preserve and pass on knowledge of history, the Constitution, and The Declaration of Independence for such a future moment. It is up to WE THE PEOPLE to defend our principles and our way of life. It is time now to take a stand!

Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize

Excuse me, I thought you had to actually ACCOMPLISH something to win the Nobel Peace Prize! One wonders why the Nobel Committee didn't wait awhile to evaluate the results of Obama's efforts. Simply giving points for trying diminishes the prestige and meaning of the prize and it completely disses others who actually did do something. What Obama should do is give the prize back and tell the Committee to wait a few years. Think he will do that? Naaaaah! Not when it means another trip in Air Force One at tax payer expense!

Well good news that the current Senate bill cost only billions instead of trillions. Wow, yippee, yay! There are still a lot of loopholes here as you can see and the battle isn't over yet, as this is only the Senate version.

School Kids Sing for Health Care Reform on Set of CNN

Outrageous!!! I am so glad my kid is not in school anymore. When was the last time you ever heard school kids singing praise for a US president and his policies? If you look at modern history, this type of thing is popular in socialist, fascist and communist regimes. Think Hitler Youth and Young Pioneers. There is nothing benign about this.

And they wonder why home schooling is so popular.

Reid Likely to Make Entire Health Care Bill an Amendment to Unrelated Tax Bill that House Passed in March

This is just one example of the kinds of tactics that our reps use to pass legislation that otherwise would not pass as a stand alone bill. Do not become complacent, as this battle is far from over! Contact your reps and let them know you are wise to such tactics and you are watching. It is critical to stay informed and keep up the pressure because it is working! But don't let up for one minute because the Dems have a lot on the line here with this legislation and they will stop at nothing to get it passed.

The bottom line is this: either we all have cadillac plans or none of us do, including Congress. If Congress, the President and the Union leaders had to do without cadillac plans maybe we would see some serious effort at reform.

CURL: Obama distractions sideline Afghan plan - Washington Times

CURL: Obama distractions sideline Afghan plan - Washington Times

Shared via AddThis The hallmark of an effective executive leader is one who is able to set priorities and make decisions based on those priorities. The more chaos, the more critical it becomes to set priorities, stick with them, and delegate those things lower on the list of priorites to others. Our president's lack of executive experience becomes more apparent by the day and I am not sure we can afford much more on-the-job training. Everybody has weaknesses and all good leaders know that when you have weaknesses you are much better served if you surround yourself with advisors who have the skills you lack and learn from them. Less radical ideology and more practical experience would be much more helpful to the president now. Will he wake up to this and seek more executive advisors? Time will tell, but he doesn't have much time left. We can only hope it is not too late.

Shared via AddThis And we wonder why people choose to home school.

It's one thing to choose such reading material as an adult. It is quite another to encourage young impressionable minds to partake before they have fully developed the capacity to distinguish right from wrong, good from evil, normal from abnormal. I pity kids who have teachers such as this one who want to lead them to such a very dark place. Good for this father who advocated so strongly for his son. Stand strong sir and keep standing. We are in a time now when we must all take a stand for what is right. Otherwise our children will be lost.

I like what the article says about the fact that there can't be too many memoirs. It is so important to pass on memories, stories, family history in some way. Memoirs are invaluable to establishing and maintaining bonds and connections especially in a society where families live far apart and those bonds are fragile. I can only hope that if I make it to 96 that I am as full of vim and vigor as Polly Curry. And if I can publish a best selling memoir, all the better! What a wonderful gift she has given, not just to her family but the rest of us as well. Thank you so much Polly!

Guess who's now banne from Capitol Christmas tree!

Shared via AddThis Yes there is a spelling error in the title but that doesn't take away from the absurdity that Jesus seems to have been banned from the Capitol Christmas tree. Apparently religious or Jesus ornaments are not allowed on the tree. Why bother celebrating Christmas at all if we can't mention Jesus? As the saying goes, "Jesus is the reason for the season." Although Christmas trees have pagan roots they have long been associated with celebrating Christmas and the birth of Jesus. It seems wierd and silly to leave Jesus out of His own birthday celebration. How would you like it if you weren't invited to your birthday party? Put Christ back into Christmas! Religious freedom of expression applies to Christians too!
